Crystal Palace Band Membership Information
Crystal Palace Band is a friendly and welcoming band who rehearse weekly and take part in contest and concerts.
Members are are expected to:
- Regularly attend Wednesday evening rehearsals.
We currently rehearse from 8pm until 10pm at Venue28 28 Beckenham Road, Beckenham, Kent BR3 4LS. - Take part in concerts and competitions.
We normally play at about two or three contests each year.
You should be prepared for additional rehearsals on the three Friday evenings preceding a contest plus an extra sectional rehearsal.
In 2023 we played six concerts and several Christmas carol engagements. Our concerts are normally at weekends or occasionally in the evenings during the week.
There is a gig list maintained on Muzodo (a web/mobile app). - Assist with setting up and packing up at rehearsals and concerts.
If everyone lends a hand, then it makes the work easier and means that it is not just left to the same few people every time. If you're not sure what to do, just ask!. - Look after the band equipment and uniform.
There are some band instruments available for members who do not have their own. If you are given one of these you are expected to look after it, clean it, and report any damage to the Property Master. - Keep the band informed of your contact details.
Let us know if you change your address, email or telephone number. - Take time for individual practice.
We are an amateur group who play for pleasure, but if we each make time for some practice between rehearsals we will have more enjoyment when we play together as a band. If you take music home, please ensure it is back for the next rehearsal or concert. Please bring a music stand and a pencil to mark up parts as instructed by the MD. - Be aware of the band safeguarding policy.
Whilst we are mainly an adult band, there are young people and others who require safeguarding who play with the Crystal Palace Progress Band and may at times play with the main band as well.
Members are expected to be aware of the safeguarding policy and to report any issues to the safeguarding officer. - Pay an annual membership subscription.
We welcome players to try the band without paying subscriptions. After a few months the Committee may invite you to become a member of the band at which point you will also be asked to pay the membership subscription, agree to the band constitution (available on the website) and provide your contact details if you have not done so already.
