The Crystal Palace Progress Band
A supportive band of all ages playing a mix of traditional brass band and modern repertoire and performing at community events
|
The Progress Band started out as the development and training section of the Crystal Palace Brass Band, and indeed we do still have that function, but these days we are a band in our own right.
Our aim is simple: to enjoy playing brass band music. We don't have a formal entry requirement, but to get the most out being in the Progress Band, you need to be able to play at around grade 3 standard. In fact we have a range of ability up to grade 7 and there are opportunities for solos and duets for the more confident players. Whatever your level, you are welcome to come along to see how you get on, and if you aren't ready yet, 6 O'clock Brass offers extra coaching for less experienced players. We play a range of repertoire, from classic brass band marches to arrangements of recent pop hits. Our gigs include playing traditional carols, summer festivals, concerts on local bandstands, and usually a competition in early spring. We have a mix of players of all ages. Some are people learning to play for the first time, some are returning to brass playing after a long break. Playing in a band is great fun, we have a friendly, supportive atmosphere and you will find that you learn far more playing with others. Have a look at our concert dates – we have a busy social calendar. For more information, see our Frequently Asked Questions. Dave Howell is our Musical Director.
He brings with him a wealth of experience as a musician and he is an excellent teacher. Dave is also the Deputy Musical Director of the Crystal Palace Band and a trumpet/cornet/flugel player with many groups in the area. |
